Hello,

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. Galatians 6:10

Typhoon Ondoy leaves 80% of Manila under water
Koko Enrile, lead evangelist of the Metro Manila Christian Church, describes the typhoon disaster and how you can help: 7 missing, many still on their roofs, no power, and one pair of disciples saved 50 lives pulling neighbors out of the floodwaters!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I am quite sure that you have heard of the tragedy which has befallen our city, Metro Manila. Yesterday, non-stop rains brought about by Typhoon Ondoy flooded the city and practically paralyzed transport, government services and causing untold suffering, severe losses to property and also loss of life. The floods caused was the worst ever in 40 years. Experts say that the Typhoon dumped some 332 mms of rain eqivalent to a whole months downpour in just eight hours!

Many videos are in the internet showing homes being swept away, cars tossed around as raging floods swirl around helpless people. Several disciples homes have been damaged and losses have been heavy. As I write, many disciples are still on top of their roofs waiting out this deluge. Some are still missing as communications have been patchy until now. I know of one disciple whose home was swept away and others whose businesses lost much due to damages. Our Hope sites have been evacuated and hopefully with no injuries. But the facilities have suffered heavy damage too.

In this light, please continue to pray that we will be able to locate our missing brothers and sisters (at least 7 are missing to date) and that no harm comes to them. Many are short of food and water but cannot be reached because of the water current. Vehicles that have been submerged are now leaking gasoline and oil, prompting authorities to shut down electrical supply to prevent a potential conflagration.

As the storm abates, your brothers and sisters in Manila will start sifting through their homes to begin rebuilding again and they will need your help.

I write to you in tears and wish to appeal for all of you to support a calamity fund for your brothers and sisters here in Manila who have been severely affected by this storm. I pray that you can pass on your contributions to the following Churches (Phoenix Valley Church of Christ, San Diego Church of Christ, Greater Albuquerque Church of Christ, the Metro LA region of LAICC, Denver Church of Christ, Oahu Church of Christ) as they would know how to send this to our central administration. (Click on Church Locator at the top of every page of DisciplesToday.org)

We wish to build up this fund through the coming weeks so we can meet the needs of the disciples here. Meantime, we will keep you posted on developments and may the Lord bless all of our efforts! In behalf of all the your brothers and sisters in Metro Manila, thank you for your prayers and your help.

God bless you all!

Love,

Koko Enrile

another one from Andre:

Dear brothers & sisters in the QC Sector,

We have brothers & sisters and their families who are in desperate need of food. I would like to encourage everyone to bring canned goods tomorrow morning to Jeric's home in Cubao. If you can also stay and help in the distribution of food packages, please be there before 10 am. Let us all work together to help our brothers & sisters in need.
